Today’s post is a quick pattern review for the DIYers and also a style feature for the experimental rule breaking trend setters out there 🙂
But first, can we just take a moment to commend me for FINALLY finishing this dress? lol (the process started in February 2016). Anyways I used New Looks Pattern 6145.
I had been seeing a lot of shift dresses everywhere and I wanted to take a stab at it. One thing I especially like about this pattern is the collar. I think it adds an interestingly unique touch to the dress, plus it makes me look serious 🙂
The dress was so easy to create; it also helped that this style only had about 8 pieces. I decided to style the dress with a metal belt combined with a pair of simple black heels.
Seeing that the pattern was so plain, i thought to use a fun colorful fabric such as this African print to really bring out the beauty in the style.
I love that this dress can be styled in several ways. Depending on your personal taste, you can dress it up or down. Just throw on a blazer (or not) and you are ready for that corporate meeting, or throw on some flats and you are ready for a day trip 🙂 The playground scene was a nice play on colors… if only the slides were big enough to play in…:-D
Overall, I would rate this pattern a 9 out of 10 for several reasons: it is great for beginners, the price point is a plus (about $3.99 USD), 5 different styles to choose from and you can dress it up or down. Oh and it looks great on any body shape, so don’t be afraid to give it a try 🙂
Until next time, happy sewing and remain Unapologetically Different,
